Sodium bisulfite is used to purify aldehydes and ketones. Explain.

Aldehydes and ketons react with sodium bisulphite to from addition compounds

The addition products are cry stalline solids . These can be decomposed by mineral acids or aqueous alkalies to give back original aldehyde or ketone. THerefore this reaction can be used for the purification of aldehydres and ketones .
