Differentiate between primary and secondary structures of proteins.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The order in which the amino acids are joined in one or more polypeptide chains of a protein is called primary structure. It gives its function and is critical of its biological activity. The secondary structure determines the manner in which the protein chain is folded. It arises from the planar geometry of the peptide bond and hydrogen bonds between one region of the backbone to another.
