It is amount of air inhaled or exhaled in one breath in a normal adult person and is about 500 ml. tidal volume of a healthy person in one hour is about 360 litres. It is calculated as :
= TV `xx` Rate of respiration/ mt. `xx` 60 minutes
`= 0.5 l xx 12xx60` = 360 litres.
