The Earth exerts more force on heavier bodies than on lighter bodies, Why is it then that when dropped, heavier bodies don’t fall faster than lighter bodies?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Consider Newton's laws of motion and equations of motion.
(ii) When the bodies are dropped from the same height, with zero initial velocity, will the value of the acceleration due to gravity actiong on the bodies remain constant (same)?
Will distance moved by the bodies under gravity depend on its weight?
Is factor of 'mass' involved in the equations of motions?

Direction: Read the instructions carefully and answr the question below. Eight people L, M, N, O, P, Q, R and S go through a fitness test where their weights are measured. A list was prepared in which the weights of these eight candidates were written in increasing order. Q is lighter than at least seven of them while M is heavier than at least seven of them. P is heavier than two people while L is lighter than two people. R is heavier than Q but lighter than P. O is heavier than three persons but definitely lighter than S. N is lighter than only one person. How many persons are lighter than P?
