The area of cross section of two cylinde...

The area of cross section of two cylinders of a Bramah press are `10cm^(2)and50cm^(2)`, respectively. In order to move up a weight of 100 placed on the bigger piston. what force should be applied on the smaller piston of smaller area ?

Given `a_(1)=10cm^(2)anda_(2)=50cm^(2)`
Also given `F_(2)=100N,F_(1)=?`
Pressure is equal on both the pistons `rArrP_(1)=P_(2)`
`rArr(F_(1))/(a_(1))=(F_(2))/(a_(2))`
`rArrF_(1)=(F_(2)/(a_(2)))a_(1)=((100)/(50))10=20N`
Thus, 20 N force applied on the piston of smaller area is sufficient to life a weight of 100 N placed on the piston of larger area.
