An echo of sound produced by a person, is heard from a distant tower after an interval of 1.5 s. If the speed of sound in air is `330 ms^(-1)`, then the distance of the tower from the person is _______ m.

A

`495`

B

`247.5`

C

`330`

D

`500`

The correct Answer is:
B

The time after which echo is heard, (t) = 1.5 s.
Speed of sound in air, `(v) = 330 ms^(-1)`.
Distance of tower, (d) = ?
As the sound wave travels twice, i.e., from person to tower and from tower to again the person.
`therefore` `V = ("distance")/("time") = (2d)/(t) rArr d = (V xx t)/(2) = (330 xx 1.5)/(2) = 247. 5 m`
