Select the appropriate relation with repect to acidity of X, Y, Z for the given compound ,with increasing order .

A

`ZgtXgtY`

B

`YgtZgtX`

C

`ZltXltY`

D

`XgtYgtZ`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Carboxylic acids are stronger acids than `-overset(+)(NH_(3))` because the corresponding conjugate base `(-COO^(-))` is more stable than `-NH_(2)` . Hnece Y is the strongest acid . Since - COOH has - I effect which decreases with distance, therefore , effect is more pronounced in Z than in X . As a result , Z is more acidic than X . Hence the true option is `YgtZgtX`.
