Bt toxins are released as inactive crystals in the bacterial body what happens to it in the cotton boll workx body that it kills the boll worm?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When cotton bollworm harvae eat upon Bt-cotton having Bt-toxin genes, then the toxic cry proteins are dissolved due to high pH level of the stomach of the larvae. The cry toxins molecules bind the epithelial cells of the midgut and prevent the sufficient flow of potsssium which causes death of such epithelial cells and gaps in the midgut epithelium are created.
