A young forest wil be more productive than an old forest , a shallow polluted lake and alpine meadow because the rate of total photosynthesis will be the highest due to fully grown vegetation , more number and large surface area of the leaves and higher quantum number .
On the other hand , an old forest has less number of levels with less number of chloroplast, a shallow polluted lake will have low oxygen contents and an alpine area is at high altitude where low temperature inhibits productivity .
