Plant body in Bryophytes is gametophyte. In liverworts it is thallus like and in mosses it is leafy. On this plant body male sex organs ( antheridia) and female sex organs ( archegonia ) are borne. Flagellated sperms ( male gametes ) are released from antheridia and female gamete ( egg) is present in archegonium . After fertilization zygote ( 2n) sporophytic stage starts . It leads to the formation of sporogonium (2n) in which haploid spores are formed .
