Could the number of eggs or young ones produced by an oviparous and viviparous mother be equal? Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

An oviparous animal always produces more number of eggs than the young ones produced by a viviparous animal because their eggs are exposed more to external unfavourable conditions and predators so have less chances of survival than the foetus developing inside the mother.s body. Large number eggs compensates the inevitable loss and ensures the continuation of race.
