The stomatal pore is guarded by two kidney shaped guard cells. Name the epidermal cells surrounding the guard cells. How does a guard cell differ from an epidermal cell ? Use a diagram to illustrate your answer.

The guard cells are living, bear chloroplasts and are surrounded by subsidiary cells. They can expand or contract and have the capacity of opening and closure. They may be kidney shaped (in dicots) or dumb-bell shaped ( in monocots). They are present in epidermal cells.
