How is it that the intracellular level of `K^(+)` are higher than extracellular levels in animal cells ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In animal cells in membranes, `Na^(+)-K^(+)` pump sends out 3 atoms of `Na^(+)` and 2 atoms of `K^(+)` are passed inwards. This happens with the energy provided by ATP. Due to this intracellular level of `K^(+)` is higher than extracellular level.
