In a girdled plant, when water is supplied to the leaves above the girdle, leaves may remai green for sometime then wilt and ultimately die. What does it indicate ?

Due to stoppage of water supply to leaves, as due to girdling, water absorbed by roots cannot reach to leaves and then will be no photosynthesis.
