A farmer adds/supplies Na, Ca, Mg and Fe regularly to his field and yet he observes that the plants show deficiency of Ca, Mg and Fe. Give a valid reason and suggest a way to help the farmer improve the growth of plants.

Due to higher concentration of Na, solubility of other cations slows down. It increases the osmotic concentration in soil. Following measures are suggested:
(i) Na should not be supplied.
(ii) To dig deep drains on the sides of fields.
(iii) For draining of Nat, watering in field should be done.
