How are photosynthesis and respiration related to each other ?

During photosynthesis solar energy is used to form glucose and oxygen. They are formed from `CO_2` and `H_2 O` in presence of chlorophyll. During the process of cellular respiration with the help of oxygen, glucose is consumed to form carbon dioxide and water along with release of ATP. Both respiration and photosynthesis synthesize ATP. Chloroplasts and mitochondria used for the above processes are semi autonomous organelles.
