Had Darwin been aware of Mendel's work would be been able to explain the origin of variations. Discuss.

Explanation

Mendel is commonly called Father of Genetics because he proposed certain laws of heredity which even today form the basis of inhertance of character. Though Darwinism explains the survival of the fittest but does not explain the mode of arrival of the fittest .So he did not explain any paritculate substance for the inheritace of continous useful variations from one generation to next generation. On the other have Mendel stated that inheritace of characters is particulate and every charcter is controlled by a pair of discrete units calle factor (now called alleles). So had Darwing been aware of Mendel.s work he could have been able to explain the origin of variations and their inheritance in the light of chages in the factors of Mendel.
