Name the bacterium that causes typhoid. Mention two diagnostic symptoms. How is this disease transmitted to others?

Typhoid is caused by a Gram-negative bacillus bacterium called Salmonella typhi found in the intestine of man. It is characterized by classic typhoid fever. Intestinal lesions and ulceration and rose coloured rash on chest and abdomen. Transmission is direct and oral alongwith contaminated food and water. Bacteria are spread by typhoid carriers.
