Will a precipitate of `AgCl` be formed on treating `CHCI_3` with `AgNO_3` ? Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The precipitate of `AgCl` will not be formed because `CHCI_3` is a covalent compound and does-not ionize to give `CI^(-)` ions. Therefore, `CHCI_3` does not react with `Ag^(+)` ions (from `AgNO_3` ) to form ppt. of `Ag CI`.
