Ionic solids conduct electricity in the molten state but not is the solid state. Explain.

In solid state, the ions are present in fixed positions in the crystal lattice and cannot move when electric field in applied. However , when melted, the well ordered arrangement of the ions in the crystal is destroyed and the ions are in a position to move about when an electric current is applied. Hence, ionic solids conduct electricity in molten state.
