What is a semiconductor? Describe the two main types of semiconductor and contrast their conduction mechanism.

The Substance whose conductance lies between that of conductors (metals) and insulators are called semiconducutors . They have conductivity values ranging from `10^(-6) ` to `10^(4) Omega^(-1) m^(-1)`. Two main types of semi-conductors are n-type and p-type.
