The plot of speed for the journey of a bus from one bus stop to another is shown below.

(i) Find the maximum acceleration for deceleration of the bus during the journey
(ii) Calculate the distance covered by the bus from 0.5 hr to 2.5 hr.

Text Solution

(i) Slope of part OP `=(50)/(0.5h)=100"km"//"hr"^(2)`
Slope of part QR`=(80-50)/(1)=(30)/(1)=30"km"//"hr"^(2)`
Slope of part SX `=(60-0)/(4-3.5)=(60)/(0.5)=120 "km"//"hr"^(2)`
`therefore` Maximum acceleration (deceleration) is observed for part SX.
(ii) Distance covered by the bus for 0.5h to 2.5h
=Area of `squarePQUT+` Area of `squareQIVU+` Area of `DeltaQRY`
`=50xx1+1xx50+(1)/(2)xx(80-50)xx1`
`=100+(1)/(2)xx30=115`km
