A police van moving on a highway with a speed of `30 km h^(-1)` Fires a bullet at a thief's car speeding away in a same direction with a speed of `192 km h^(-1)`. If the muzzle speed of the buller is `150 m s^(-1)`, with what speed does the bullet hit thief's car? .
.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Speed of the police van, `v_(P)=30 km h^(-1)`
Speed of the thief.s car, `v_(1)=192km h^(-1)`
As the bullet is fired from the police van, it will share the velocity of the van.
Muzzle speed of the bullet `=150m//s=540km//h`
Total speed of the bullet `v_(b)=540+30=570km h^(-1)`
Relative velocity of bullet w.r.t. thief car `=v_(b)-v_(t)`
`=570-192`
`=378km hr^(-1)=105 ms^(-1)`
