A bus is moving with a speed of `10 m s^(-1)` on a straight road. A scooterist wishes to overtake the bus in 100 s. If the bus is at a distance of 1 km from the scooteritst with what speed should the scooterist chase the bus?

A

`40ms^(-1)`

B

`25ms^(-1)`

C

`10ms^(-1)`

D

`20ms^(-1)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
d

`v_(B)=10 m//s`
Let both reach at point P in time t=100 second.
Motion of scooterist from A to P

`("total distance")/("total time")=v_(s)`
`(1000+x)/(100)=v_(s)`
Motion of bus from B to P in same time
`("total distance")/("total time")=v_(B)`
`(X)/(100)=10m//s`
`x=1000m`
From equation i and ii
`(2000)/(100)=v_(s)`
