When a ball is thrown up vertically with...

When a ball is thrown up vertically with velocity `v_0`, it reaches a maximum height of h. If one wishes to triple the maximum height then the ball should be thrown with velocity

A

`3v_(0)`

B

`9v_(0)`

C

`sqrt(2)v_(0)`

D

`(3)/(2)v_(0)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
c

A ball is thrown with initial velocity `v_(0)` At maximum height h, final velocity must be zero,
`v^(2)=u^(2)+2gh`
`0=v_(0)^(2)-2gh`
`rArr v_(0)=sqrt(2gh)`
Now, h=3h and initial velocity be v. final velocity
will be zero, at maximum height h.
`v^(2)=(v)^(2)-2g(3h)`
`0=(v)^(2)-2g(3h)`
`v=sqrt(2gxx3h)=sqrt(3)v_(0)`
