Hydrazine reacts with `KIO_(3)` in presence of `HCl` as `:`
`N_(2)H_(4)+IO_(3)^(-)+2H^(+)+Cl^(-) rarrICI+N_(2)+3H_(2)O`
The equivalent masses of `N_(2)H_(4)` and `KIO_(3)` respectively are `:`

A

16 and 87

B

16 and 53.5

C

8 and 53.5

D

8 and 87

The correct Answer is:
C

(c) O.N. of N in `N_2H_4` is -2 which changes to 0 in `N_2`.
Hence Eq. mass of `N_2H_4 = ("molar mass")/(2 xx 2) =32/4 = 8` O.N. of iodine changes from +5 in `IO_(3)^(-)`, to+1 in ICl.
Hence, equiv. mass of `IO_(3)^(-) = ("molar mass")/(5 - 1) = 214/4 =53.5`
