Glycerol is more viscous than ethanol due to `:`

A

high molecular weight

B

high boiling point

C

many hydrogen bonds per molecule

D

Fajan's rule

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Because of larger number of intermolecular hydrogen bonding (three per molecule) in case of glycerol `(CH_(2)OH-CHOH0CH_(2)OH)` as compared to ethanol `(CH_(3)CH_(2)OH)`, the attraction between molecules of glycerol is more than that between molecules of ethanol. Due to this glycerol is more viscous than ethanol.
