On the basis of main source of moisture for crops, Indian farming can be classified into irrigated and rainfed farming.
Features of irrigated farming:
(i) It protects the crops from adverse effects of soil moisture deficiency.
(ii) It provides sufficient soil moisture in the cropping season to achieve high productivity.
Features of rainfed farming:
(i) Hardy and drought resistant crops such as ragi, bajra, moong, gram are grown.
(ii) Practise various measures of soil moisture conservation and rain water harvesting.
