(i) India has only 4 per cent of the world.s water resources but has 16 percent of world.s population. (ii) Due to topographical, hydrological and other constraints, only 32 per cent of the available surface water can be utilized. (iii) Total utilisable water resource in India is very limited. Demand is increasing day by day. (iv) Population is increasing. Life-style is also changing (v) Water pollution is making water resource unusable.
