Use the formula `lambda.-lambda=(v)/(c)lambda`
i.e., `v=(c)/(lambda)(lambda.-lambda)=(3xx10^(8)xx15)/(6563)=6.68xx10^(5)ms^(-1)`

In a hydrogen atom, the electron and proton are bound at a distance of about 0.53 Å. (a) Estimate the potential energy of the system in eV, taking the zero of the potential energy at infinite separation of the electron from proton. (b) What is the minimum work to free the electron, given that its kinetic energy in the orbit is half the magnitude of potential energy obtained in (a)? (c ) What are the answer to (a) and (b) above if the zero of the potential energy is taken at 1.06 Å separation?

The longest wavelength transitoin in one of the spectral series of hydrogen atom is 6563 Å. Identify the series to which the spectral line belongs.

A red line in the hydrogen spectrum has a wavelength of 6563 Å . Find out its photon energy.

As a result of collision with an electron of 20 eV energy, a hydrogen atom is excited to the higher energy state and the electron is scattered with a reduced velocity. Subsequecntly a photon with wavelength 1216 Å is emitted from the hydrogen atom . Determine the velocity of the electron after collision.

If the electron in a hydrogen atom jumps from the second excited state to its ground state, the wavelength of the emitted radiation becomes 1026 Å . Determine the value of Rydberg constant from this data.

Among the photoelectrons, emitted due to incidence of light of frequency f on a metal surface , only the electrons having the highest kinetic energy can ionise a hydrogen atom. If this experment is performed with light of frequency 5/6f , the photoelectron having the highest kinetic energy can excite a hydrogen atom and from this excited hydrogen atom a photon of wavelength 1215 Å is emitted . Determine the (i) work function of the metal and
