A `70kg` man stands in contact against the inner wall of a hollow cylindrical drum of radius `3m` rotating about its verticle axis. The coefficient of friction between the wall and his clothing is `0.15` . What is the minimum rotational speed of the cylinder to enable the man to remain stuck to the wall (without falling) when the floor is suddenly removed?

The horizontal force N by the wall on the man provides the needed centripetal force : ` N = m R omega^2`. The frictional force f (vertically upwards) opposes the weight mg. The man remains stuck to the wall after the floor is removed if `mg = f lt mu N i.e. mg lt mu m R omega^2` . The minimum angular speed of rotation of the cylinder is `omega_("min") = sqrt( g// mu R ) = 5 s^(-1)`

At a particular speed of the rotor, the floor below the person is removed and the person hangs resting against the wall without any floor. Assume that the friction coefficient between his body and the walls is 0.8 and that limiting friction acts at all the contacts. a. show that the person pushes the two walls with equal force. b. find the normal force exerted by either wall on the person Take g=10 m/s^2 .
