Pyruvic acid takes part in different types of fermentation reactions under anaerobic conditions and forms acceptor molecule of Krebs cycle under aerobic conditions . Excess pyruvate can also undergo gluconeogenesis . Hence , pyruvic acid is called pivotal metabolide .
