A proton and an electron having equal velocity are allowed to pass through a uniform magnetic field. Which one of the following statements is correct in this connection?

A

The proton and the electron experience equal and opposite force

B

The proton experiences greater force then does the electron

C

The electron experiences more force than does the proton

D

No moving charged particle experiences a force in a magnetic field

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

The force experienced by a particle having charge 9 moving with a velocity `vec(v)` in a uniform magnetic field `vec(B)` is given by `vec(F)=9(vec(v)xx vec(B))`
From above expression it is clear that both electron and proton will experience equal but opposite force as they have equal but opposite charges.
