When did the Cripps Mission came to India? Why did the talks with Cripps Mission failed?

(i) The Cripps Mission came to India in March, 1942. The aim of the Mission was to forge a compromise with Gandhiji and Indian National Congress.
(ii) The Congress was ready to help the British in the Second World War against the Axis powers on the condition that the Viceroy would appoint an Indian as the Defence Member of his Executive Council. The Viceroy declined the Congress.s demand. As a result the Cripps Mission failed in its mission.
