What is the shortcoming of exoskeleton in insects ?

Explanation

Exoskeleton of insects restricts growth so that the growing animal has to shed or moult, the outgrown exoskeleton, exposing the new, soft, extensible exoskeleton developing underneath. Whilest still soft, the new exoskeleton permits growth of the body. Until the new exoskeleton hardens, the animal is in a great danger of being up by predators. At this stage, the exoskeleton is unable to provide support and movement.
