(a) Hormones secreted by hypothalamus are commonly termed releaser hormones (RH) and inhibitory hormones or factors (IH or IF). These include-
(i) Thyrotrophin-releasing hormone
(ii) Adrenocorticotrophin-releasing hormone
(iii) Follicle-stimulating hormone-releasing hormone
(iv) Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone
(v) Growth hormone- releasing hormone
(vi) Growth hormone release - inhibiting hormone
(vii) Prolactin-releasing hormone
(vii) Prolactin-releasing hormone
(viii) Prolactin release-inhibiting hormone
(ix) Melanocyte stimulating hormone-releasing hormone
(x) Melanocyte stimulating hormone release-inhibiting hormone.
(b) Different parts of pituitary secrete different hormones. These are -
Anterior lobe of pituitary. (i) Follicle stimultating hormone (ii) Luteinizing hormone (iii)Thyroid stimulating hormone (iv) Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (v) Somatotrophic or Growth hormone (vi) Prolactin hormone or Luteotrophic hormone.
Middle (Intermediate) lobe of pituitary. (i) Melanocyte stimulating hormone.
Posterior lobe of pituitary. (i) Oxytocin (ii) Vasorpressin or Antidiuretic hormon.
(c ) Thyroid secretes 3 hormones - (i) Thyroxine or tetraidothyronine (ii) Triiodothyronine (iii) Calcitonin.
(d) Parathyroid gland secretes a single hormone called parathormone (PTH) or Collip's hormone.
(e ) Adrenals. These have two regions, namely, outer adrenal cortex and inner adrenal medulla. Both these regions secrete different hormones.
Adrenal Cortex. Hormones of adrenal cortex are grouped into three categories :
(i) Glucocorticoids, e.g., cortisol (ii) Mineralocorticoids, e.g., aldosterone, and (iii) Sexcorticoids.
Adrenal medulla. It secretes two hormones-
(i) Epinephrine (adrenaline) (ii) Nor-epinephrine (nor- adrenaline).
(f) Pancreas. It secretes following hormones : (i) Insulin (ii) Glucagon (iii) Somatostatin
(g) Testis. It secretes androgens such as testosterone.
(h) Ovary. It secretes-(i) estrogens such as estradiol (ii) progesterone (iii) Relaxin.
(i) Thymus. It secretes thymosine hormone.
(j) Atrium. It secretes atrial natriuretic factor (ANF).
(k) Kidney. It secretes renin.
(l) G.I. tract. Various hormones secreted by G.I. tract include (i) Gastrin (ii) Secretin (iii) Cholecystokinin (iv) Enterocrinin (v) Duocrinin (vi) Villikinin.
