(a) He concluded from this experiment that some component of the bacterial cell, rather than the whole cell, was the transforming agent. This must be the genetic material.
(b) Griffith's experiments were followed by - Oswald Avery, Colin MacLeod and Maclyn McCarty (1933-44).
(c) They concluded that the transformation was caused by DNA. They came to this conclusion on the basis of the fact that Protein-digesting enzymes and RNA-digesting enzymos did not affect transformation. Transformation was inhibited by digestion with DNA-digesting enzyme (DNase).
