One litre of a solution of N/2 HCl was heated in beaker and it was observed that when the volume of solution got reduce to 600 mL, 3.25 g of HCl was lost. Calculate the normality of the resulting solution.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
0.685 N

1L of N/2 HCl solution contain .
`=36.5//2 = 18.25 g HCl`
Wt. of HCl lost on heating ` = 3.25 g` of HCl .
Wt. of HCl left after heating ` = 18.25 - 3.25 = 15.0 g`
Normality ` = (15.0 xx 1000)/(36.5 xx 600) = 0.685 N`.
