Which of the following solution has higher freezing point ? Justify your answer.
`0.05 M AI_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)`
`0.1 M K_(3)[Fe(CN)_(6)].`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`0.05 M Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)` has higher freezing point .
`DeltaT_(f) prop I xx ` concentration.
For 0.05 M `Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) , I = 5`
`DeltaT_(f) prop 5 xx 0.05 = 0.25` moles of ions .
For 0.1 M `K_(3)[Fe(CN)_(6)]`, I = 4
`DeltaT_(f) prop 4 xx 0.1 = 0.04` moles of ions .
`therefore` Depression in freezing point for 0.05 M `Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)` will be less and hence freezing point will be higher.
