The weight of silver (at wt. = 108)displaced by a quantity of electricity which displaces 560 mL of `O_(2)` at STP will be (Volume of 1 mole of gas STP is 22. 4 L)

A

5.4 g

B

10.8 g

C

54.0 g

D

108.0 g

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

At STP , `22, 400 ` mL of oxygen = 32 g
5600 mL of oxygen = `(32 xx 5600)/(22,400) = 8`g
`therefore` Weight of `O_2` deposited = 8 g
According to Faraday.s second law ,
`("Wt. of" O_2 "deposited")/("Wt. of Ag deposited") = ("Equivalent wt. of oxygen")/("Equivalent wt. of silver")`
or `(8g)/("Wt. of Ag deposited") = (8)/(108)`
or Wt. of silver deposited = 108 g
