(a) Let the number be x .
Now , according to the question ,
`(55-14)% ` or x =8610
`implies (x xx 41)/(100)=8610`
`implies x=(8610 xx100)/(41)=21000`
`:.` 85% of 21000`=(21000 xx 85)/(100)=17850`
