It is essential to wash a precipitation ...

It is essential to wash a precipitation with water before its quantitative estimation . Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

During precipitation, preferential adsorption of common ion takes place from solutions. This will give error in estimating precipitate quantitatively.
Hence precipitate is washed to desorb the excess ions adhared to the precipitate.
