A `100 muF` capacitor in series with a `40 Omega` resistance is connected to 110 V, 60 Hz supply.
(a) what is the maximum current in the circuit ?
(b) what is the time lag between the current maximum and the voltage maximum ?

Text Solution

For a RC circuit, if `V=V_(0) sin omega t`
`I=(V_(0))/(sqrt(R^(2)+(I//omega C)^(2))) sin(omega t+phi)` where `tan phi=(1)/(omegaCR)`
(a) `I_(0)=3.23A`
(b) `phi=33.5^(@)`
Time lag `=(phi)/(omega)=1.55ms`
