State Henry's law. Write its one application. What is the effect of temperature on solubility of gases in liquid ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Henry.s law states : The solubility of a gas in a liquid is directly proportional to the pressure of the gas.
Application : To increase the solubility of `CO_2` in soft drinks and soda water, the bottle is sealed under high pressure.
Effect of temperature : Solubility of a gas in a liquid decreases with rise of temperature. As dissolution is an exothermic process, the solubility should decrease with rise of temperature according to Le chatelier.s principle.
