(a) On mixing liquid X and Y, the volume of the resulting solution increases. What type of deviation from Raoult's law is shown by the resulting solution ? What change in temperature would you observe after mixing X and Y ? (b) How can the direction of osmosis be reversed ? Write one use of reverse osmosis.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) The resulting solution will show positive deviation from Raoult.s law. A lower temperature will be observed. (b) We can reverse the direction of osmosis by applying a pressure greater than the osmotic pressure on the solution. Reverse osmosis is used in the purification of water for domestic and commercial purpose.
