Why does `O_3` act as a powerful oxidising agent ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`O_3` is an endothermic compound i.e., it possesses greater internal energy than oxygen. On heating, it readily decomposes to give dioxygen and nascent oxygen.
` O_3 overset("Heat")to O_2 + O` ( nascent oxygen )
Since nascent oxygen is very reactive, therefore, `O_3` acts as a powerful oxidising agent.
