Explanation

The principle involved in this experiment is when de-Broglie waves of electron beam is passed through thin gold foil produces diffraction pattern.
The experimental arrangement consists of a cathode in a discharges tube gives strong electron beam. This is made to pass through a hole in anode and then through a very thin gold foil. Emergent beam falls on a screen. Here electron beam gets diffraction by the gold foil. On the screen one can see the concentric rings of diffraction pattern. This proves that the electron beam is giving rise to a diffraction pattern confirming matter waves.
