Sound propagates in air through compression- rarefaction.explain

A sound wave is passing through air column in the form of compression and rarefaction. In consecutive compressions and rarefactions.

In a certain gas, a source produces 40,000 compression and 40,000 rarefaction pulses in 1 sec. When the second compression pulse is produced, the first is 1cm away from the source. Calculate the wave speed.

An impluse laser may be treaed as a source of phtons that are emitted during the time interval of the pulse which is followrd by a time interval when no photons are produced. Pulse are periodically repeated. A laser beam of diameter d = 10 microns is directed upward and is perpendicular to the then foil surface which has an index of reflection rho = 0.50 (see the sketch of the experiment). The index of reflection of the surface is the ratio of the relected energy of foil that can be supported in the air solely by the light pressure of the laser beam ?

A source of sound of frequency 256 Hz is moving towards a wall with a velocity of 5 m/s. How many beats per second will be heard by an observer O standing in such a positoin that the source S is between O and wall? (c=330(m)/(s) )

A metre - long tube open at one end, with a movalble piston at the other end, shows resonance with a fixed frequency source (a tunning fork of frequency 340 Hz)when the tube length is 25.5 cm or 79.3 cm. Estimate the speed of sound in air at the temperature of the experiment. The edge effects may be neglected.

An air-cored solenoid with length 30 cm, area of cross-section 25 "cm"^2 and number of turns 500, carries a current of 2.5 A. The current is suddenly switched off in a brief time of 10^(-3) s. How much is the average back emf induced across the ends of the open switch in the circuit ? Ignore the variation in magnetic field near the ends of the solenoid.

A 3.6m long vertical pipe resonates with a source of frequency 212.5 Hz when water level is at certain height in the pipe. Find the height of water level (from the bottom of the pipe) at which resonance occurs. Neglect end correction. Now , the pipe is filled to a height H (~~ 3.6m) . A small hole is drilled very close to its bottom and water is allowed to leak. Obtain an expression for the rate of fall of water level in the pipe as a function of H . If the radii of the pipe and the hole are 2 xx 10^(-2)m and 1 xx 10^(-3)m respectively, Calculate the time interval between the occurance of first two resonances. Speed of sound in air 340m//s and g = 10m//s^(2) .

A boy claps his hands near a straight-high hill and heard the echo after 5 second. If velocity of sound in air is 340 m/s the distance between the boy and the hill is ...... metre
