How does current in a pure capacitor var...

How does current in a pure capacitor vary in terms of phase angle with the voltage across it?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

If `V = V_(0) sin omega t`
`q = CV = CV_(0) sin omega t`
`I = (dq)/(d t) = omega CV_(0) cos omega t`
or `I = omega CV_(0) sin (omega t + (pi)/(2))`
So, the current leads the applied voltage in phase by `pi//2`.
