What is a rectifier ? With suitable circuit describe the action of a full wave rectifier by drawing input and output waveforms.

The process of conversion of a.c. to d.c. is called rectification.


The circuit connections are made as shown in the circuit diagram. During positive half cycle of the input signal diode D is forward biased and hence conducts, whereas diode D is reverse biased and hence does not conduct. During negative half cycle of the input signal, diode D, is reverse biased and diode D, is forward biased. Hence D, conducts. Hence the output is as shown in the diagram.
